Tryout Prep Classes
We are offering three Tryout Prep Classes this year to help prepare your athlete for the tryout process. These classes are designed to familiarize athletes with the tryout format, expectations, and drills while providing some extra practice time before tryouts.
Please note: These classes are focused specifically on tryout preparation and are not intended to develop or improve volleyball skills.
Space is limited, so register ahead to ensure your spot. The cost is $10 when registered in advance or $15 at the door for athletes who do not register ahead.
Tryout Process
During Tryouts, the evaluators will lead players through a variety of skills, drills, and team-play activities. Each athlete will have multiple opportunities to demonstrate her current skill level and abilities.
Player selections will be based on a variety of factors, including:
- Athletic ability and overall volleyball skills
- Current skill level and volleyball experience
- Potential for continued development
- Attitude, effort, and coachability
- Ability to learn and improve skills
- Ability to contribute to the team
- Positional needs and overall team composition
Evaluators will assess players throughout the tryout process and determine team selections based on the needs of each team and age level.
Our goal is to place each athlete on the team and level that best fits her current abilities, potential, and the overall needs of the team.
Only athletes, evaluators, and facilitators will be allowed in the gym during tryouts. Parents and spectators will not be permitted in the gym during the tryout process.
Team Placement
Our goal is to provide an opportunity for every athlete who wants to participate in the Sauk Rapids JO Volleyball program to be placed on a team. At this time, we hope to not make cuts.
However, team placement will depend on the total number of athletes who register, the number of teams we are able to form, and the number of coaches available for each age division.
We will make every effort to accommodate all registered athletes while creating teams that provide a positive and competitive experience for everyone.
Our hope is that every athlete who wants to play will have the opportunity to be part of a team! 🏐
Season Schedule & Communication
Teams will typically practice two days per week, with tournaments generally held on weekends.
Depending on the age level, teams can expect to participate in approximately 8–12 tournaments throughout the season, primarily in the surrounding area.
Practice days and times will be determined by each coach based on coach availability. Specific practice schedules will be communicated once teams have been formed.
We recommend that all families download the Crossbar app on their phones. Crossbar will be used to communicate important team information, including practice schedules, tournament details, updates, and other team communications throughout the season.
More information regarding team schedules, practices, tournaments, and other season details will be provided once teams have been assigned following evaluations.
Jerseys
Please be sure to get sized for your jersey at tryouts to ensure you receive the correct size.
Once jersey orders are submitted, any reorders or replacement jerseys needed due to incorrect sizing will be the responsibility of the family.
Please take a moment at tryouts to confirm your sizing before your jersey order is placed.
Important things to know
A player and parent meeting will be held in December. Additional details, including the date, time, and location, will be provided at a later date.
We strongly encourage all players and parents to make every effort to attend. Important information regarding the upcoming season will be discussed, including fundraising requirements, Dibs hours, team expectations, and other important season details.
